Oh, and I seem to have missed that in my first mail ... so jikes is 
broken for you with Classpath 0.96.1 on NetBSD? Then maybe I should just
take it out completely out of the configure detection. That would let me
consider switching over java.lang.ref/reference vmspecific classes to 
Java 1.5.
