I tried my patch with jis-fixed (instead of kochi-mincho) and got

XCreateOC error at -jis-fixed-bold-r-normal--*-100-75-75-*-*-*-*.
XCreateOC error at -jis-fixed-extrablack-r-normal--*-100-75-75-*-*-*-*.

etc.

Maybe xfs-xtt (X-TryeType font server) and japanese truetype fonts are
required?
