The way I do my regression testing at the moment is to 
../kaffe/configure --prefix=/tmp/topic/built
 make
 make install 
 make check JAVAC="/tmp/topic/built/bin/kaffe -noverify at.dms.kjc.Main"

that's the workaround until a fresh build of kjc is checked in.
