I believe the desktop edition build of Kaffe that's available for Familiar
has been compiled without image-file support; the default toolchain from
handhelds.org doesn't include these libraries, and Kaffe's configure
notices that, disabling those features (It would be impossible to link to
them without the libraries and headers).
The solution is to compile your own - this can be a bit involved, since
you need to get the toolchain and apprpriate extra libs etc. I'll probably
provide a recent build for Familiar myself soon as well (
http://www.tml.hut.fi/~jsantala/feed ) but I was hoping to get Xsmiles
working on it on the desktop first before getting to that. There's an
experimental build of the custom edition with a few mods for debug /
Xsmiles already, but that runs on framebuffer only.
