... which goes away with jikes == 1.13

That and using LD_PRELOAD I finally got:

All 112 tests passed

For the benefit of other OpenBSD users, to rollback jikes and
install everything in the right place:

cd /usr/ports/lang/jikes
cvs up -PAd
cvs up -r OPENBSD_2_9 Makefile files/md5
ulimit -d 100000
make install

You also need archivers/zip installed.
(lang/kaffe doesn't list it in BUILD_DEPENDS)
