compiling Kaffe statically?

Hello - 

I am attempting to run Kaffe on a simulator that doesn't support shared libraries.  I configured with the --with-staticlib and --with-staticvm options and compiled it.  However, when I try to run the VM it is looking for the libnative library.  If I put the libnative library in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH the simulator aborts, and if it's not in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH the VM doesn't run.  Is there any way to compile the VM so that it doesn't attempt to load any libraries at all?
