Problems compiling epfl.ch/sawt package with Kaffe

To compile the epfl.ch sawt package on Linux SPARC (Redhat 4.0) I had to
remove the following lines (76-78) from packages/epfl.ch/APIawt/lib/X.h:

#ifdef KAFFE
extern char* makeCString (stringClass*);
#endif

Was this meant for an older version of Kaffe?  I can't tell you if this
change makes things work, because I haven't yet made Kaffe 0.8.3 compile,
but it does make everything in the epfl.ch package compile without errors.
