[kaffe-siteadmin] Sponsorships...

Hi,

Lately, it seems like most of our offers of sponsorships are coming from
websites that seem motivated to sponsor kaffe.org solely so that they
can increase their Google pagerank score (and get more search engine
traffic).

Although, there isn't anything terribly bad about that, and these
companies don't appear to be doing anything terribly unethical -- I'm a
bit uncomfortable with this pattern.

My original idea was for the sponsorship program was to allow for "fans"
of Kaffe to help out with the project in an easy way. Frankly, the cost
of running the server ($50 per month) isn't much -- I could easily
afford to pay for it myself, but I figured that other people who care
about the project might actually *want* to help out.

I'm afraid that the way the program is currently set up, we're accepting
sponsorships from companies that are just doing it because they have
something to gain, at the expense of not accepting sponsorships from
people who are motivated primarily by wanting to help out the project.

:-(

How about if we tighten up the criteria somewhat? How about if we ask
for the potential sponsors to submit a short "advocacy blurb" in which
they explain what Kaffe means to them, and why they'd like to help out
the project?

Any other ideas?

Cheers,

 - Jim
